A New Home Search

After several years of diligently saving money, I’m nearly ready to purchase my first home. Because I’ve been thinking about buying a home for so long, I know exactly what I want my house to look like. I desire a place that has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. I also need a quiet space to set up my home office in. I want a massive, walk-in closet in my master bedroom. My master bathroom needs to have double vanities, a tiled, walk-in shower, and a Jacuzzi tub. On this blog, I hope you will discover how to set priorities during your new home search. Enjoy!

Checking Out A Neighborhood When Shopping For A New Home

Elli Jokela

If you are shopping for a new home and you have narrowed things down to some homes that you really like, then it may come down to choosing the home that is also going to offer you the best neighborhood. While there are several sources you can use online to get a bit of an idea of what neighborhoods are like, there's nothing like getting the information first hand and in person. Here are some of the many things that you can do to get a complete idea of what living in each of the neighborhoods would really be like.

Look up statistics online

You can find statistics online that will give you information on things like the crime in the area, the cost of living for that area and more. One thing you should know about these online websites is you do want to make sure that the information is current, some of the sites can be as much as a few years behind in the information they provide you with and a lot can change in a few years' time.

Drive around the entire area

You should drive around the neighborhood itself to see how the neighborhood changes from street to street. You may be looking at a house that's on a beautiful street, but all of the streets surrounding it may be less desirable. This can indicate that your street may also become worse in the near future as bad elements spread out to take over that street as well.

Do some shopping in the stores

You should make a couple of shopping trips to some of the stores that would end up being the ones that you would more than likely be making use of should you choose to move into that house. This will give you a good idea of what your everyday shopping experiences will be like as far as the cleanliness of the stores, the attitudes of employees, the prices of the merchandise, etc.

Visit the neighborhood at different times of the day

You should cruise through the neighborhood on a weekday, on the weekend and at night time. This is really the only way you are going to get a real sense of what the neighborhood is like around the clock. It may seem quiet during the weekdays, but it may turn rowdy and loud when kids are home or when night time arrives and the partiers come out.
