A New Home Search

After several years of diligently saving money, I’m nearly ready to purchase my first home. Because I’ve been thinking about buying a home for so long, I know exactly what I want my house to look like. I desire a place that has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. I also need a quiet space to set up my home office in. I want a massive, walk-in closet in my master bedroom. My master bathroom needs to have double vanities, a tiled, walk-in shower, and a Jacuzzi tub. On this blog, I hope you will discover how to set priorities during your new home search. Enjoy!

House Hunting? Why You Should Visit Open Houses

Elli Jokela

Have you started house hunting, but not seeing your dream home up for sale yet? It may be worth it to start spending a part of your weekends visiting various open houses of homes for sale in your area. Even if you do not find the perfect home for you, it can have the following benefits you may not be aware of.

Open Houses Help You Find a Real Estate Agent

A hard part of the home buying process is finding the perfect real estate agent for you. Searching online may not be enough for you to learn about them, and setting up formal meetings to find one can be time consuming. Going to open houses gives you an opportunity to meet many real estate agents in the same day. The environment doesn't have any pressure to sign a contract with them at the time, and you can get their contact information and follow up with them later if you want. Keep in mind that if you find an agent that is selling a home that is close to what you want, they are most likely going to familiar with similar homes to help you find one.

Open Houses Help You Learn The Neighborhood

The house you are visiting may not be a perfect match for you, but it can give you some insight about the neighborhood that it is in. Driving to a new location, seeing the area, and walking around can help guide you to what part of town you want to live in. And when you go to an open house on the weekend, you'll most likely see the other people in the area out and about to learn what they are like.

Open Houses Help You Learn About Other Homes

Since the agent running an open house represents multiple sellers, they may be able to tell you about other properties that interest you. Start up a conversation about what you are looking for, and you will be surprised at the insight that they have. You may even get a heads up on a property that is about to be listed on the market.

Open Houses Help You Learn About Other Buyers

It's common to run into other buyers at an open house, which can help give you insight on what your competition is like for other homes out there. You may learn that there are plenty of buyers looking to get into a home, or that the market is dead and homes are barely getting anybody interested in them. Use to your advantage to learn if you should make a conservative or competitive offer on a home.
