Don't Overlook Certain Spots To Clean When Preparing Your House For Sale

Elli Jokela

If you are going to be putting your house on the market, then you want to get it in as nice of shape as you can. This way the real estate agent can come right in and stage it for an open house and you can hopefully get an offer right away. When you are going through your house there are some spots that you don't want to overlook. Some areas of homes are easy to forget to clean because you don't tend to give them much thought. You can learn about some of these areas that tend to get overlooked by reading this article.

The tops of the bedroom closets

You vacuum the bedroom and the closet, you go around and clean all of the baseboards, you wash the walls, you make sure the windows are clean, and then you probably feel like your job is done. However, you would be wrong. You can be surprised at how many things get left in the tops of bedroom closets.

You may sell something special with your home if you don't get a step stool and check way back on that top closet shelf. Not to mention, you don't want a tall person to come in and see a bunch of dirt up there that you forgot to clean up when you were doing the rest of the bedroom.

Under the sinks

Another common place that people tend to forget to clean is the cabinets under the kitchen and bathroom sinks. This could be because people are just too tired after cleaning and scouring the whole rest of the kitchen and bathrooms to remember to bend down and look in those cabinets, or it could be because those are the places where the cleaning supplies are kept, so they don't really think about those areas getting dirty.

These areas are, however, one of the places a lot of people like to check out when they are looking at a home because they want to make sure there aren't any leaks, so messes left behind will probably be found fairly quickly.

The kitchen exhaust hood

The kitchen exhaust hood gets overlooked a lot when the rest of the kitchen is being cleaned. One reason for this may be that the person cleaning can't see the top of the hood, so they simply overlook it. Or, it may get passed over because it tends to blend in with some of the walls and is easy to not think about when cleaning. Make sure you clean it and be prepared to use some good supplies. The exhaust hood can take a good degreaser and plenty of elbow grease to clean if it's been a while since it was last cleaned.
